32 large international conventions are already booked for the new Melbourne Convention Centre from 2009.
These conventions will bring over 62,000 delegates to Melbourne with a combined economic benefit for Victoria of $390 million.
Economic modelling estimates that over 25 years the convention centre will stimulate Victoria's economy in excess of $197 million each year and create 2500 jobs plus 1000 jobs during the construction phase.
National Business Events Study (NBES) 2004. Tourism's overall contribution to the Victorian economy is significant – worth $10.9 billion a year and supporting some 156,000 jobs across the State.
